Spa Leaks and Repairs

Understanding Spa Leaks & Repairs: Expectations

We’ve created this guide to help you understand what to expect when dealing with a leaking spa. Our goal is to provide clear information about the most common types of leaks, how they are diagnosed and repaired, and what costs may be involved—depending on whether your spa is under warranty. By reviewing this guide before your service visit, you’ll have a better understanding of the process and can be prepared for what may be required. Leak repairs can range from a simple adjustment of a loose drain cap to more complex plumbing issues that require in-shop repair. In every case, we are committed to transparent communication and will keep you updated every step of the way.

NOTE:  If your spa has frozen, the damage may be widespread.  Repair costs may exceed the value of your spa.

1. Drain Valve Leaks (Most Common)

The most frequent leak we encounter is from the drain valve area, often due to:

  • Drain caps not fully tightened
  • Gaskets missing, worn, or out of place

Before requesting a service call, please check the following:

  • Ensure the drain cap(s) are hand-tightened securely (some spas have two drains near each other)
  • Confirm the gasket(s) are present and in good condition

Service Visit Note:
If the issue is related to the drain cap, a minimum $150 service fee (varies by location) will apply.
Drain cap-related leaks are not covered under warranty.

2. Equipment Area Leaks

These leaks usually occur in the equipment bay and are commonly caused by:

  • The spa sitting dry for a month or longer.  We recommend monitoring the leak(s) for about 72 hours after refilling.  Minor leaks may dry up after the water heats to temperature and the O-rings, gaskets and seals have expanded.
  • Pump seals
  • Plumbing joints
  • Fittings
  • Leaking components, i.e. heater, circulation pump, jet pump, etc. In most cases, these can be diagnosed and repaired during the same visit.

If parts are needed, we offer two shipping options:

  • Standard (7–14 days): No additional shipping cost
  • Expedited (3 business days): Shipping charges will apply

If your spa previously froze, there’s a higher likelihood of plumbing leaks.  In such cases, we’ll:

  • Repair any present leaks in the equipment bay
  • After repairs, you will fill the spa and monitor it for further water loss over several days.
  • If further leaks are found, further inspection of the plumbing will be necessary.

If needed, your spa may be transported to our shop for more extensive evaluation and repair. (See below for In-Foam Leaks.)

Cost Structure

Out-of-Warranty Spas:

  • $150 Minimum Diagnostic Fee (varies by location)
  • Additional charges for parts and labor

In-Warranty Spas:

  • $75 Diagnostic Fee (varies by location) – If the spa was delivered less than 180 days from the date of service request there will be no diagnostic fee
  • Parts & labor covered by manufacturer’s warranty

3. In-Foam Leaks (Most Complex)

These are leaks located inside the foam insulation that surrounds the spa’s plumbing.

 Repair Process:

  • May require removing panels and foam or insulation
    • Multiple leaks are often present, especially if the spa has frozen.
    • Once a leak is suspected, we trace it by following the visible water trail through the foam or insulation. After locating the leak and identifying the necessary parts, we drain the spa and perform the repair. The repaired area is then allowed to be cured for at least 24 hours before the spa is refilled. Over the next several days, we run the jets periodically while we monitor the original repair site for any signs of continued leaking. During this time, we also inspect the rest of the spa to determine if additional leaks are present. Some repairs may be completed on-site, while others require transport to our facility

    ·         If your spa is losing less than 1 inch of water per week, you may be able to use a product called Fix-A-Leak. This liquid sealant is added directly to the spa water and circulates through the plumbing by running the jets for a couple of hours, several times a day for 48 hours. Depending on the location and severity of the leak, this product may seal the plumbing and help prevent further water loss. Fix-A-Leak is often recommended by our service team as a more economical option, with a cost of under $50 per bottle.

A technician will determine whether the repair location is based on:

    • Severity and location of the leak(s)
    • Distance from our facility
    • Working conditions and safety considerations

    Please note:

Shop space is limited.  If your spa requires in-shop repair, there may be a waitlist.  We will provide weekly updates on your position on the list.

    Deposit & Communication Process

    If Spa Is Under Warranty:

    • No deposit required
    • All parts, labor, and transport covered by manufacturer’s warranty

If Spa Is Not Under Warranty:

    • $2,000 deposit required before beginning repairs
      • Covers labor, diagnostics, and transportation (if needed)
      • We will provide regular updates via text, including photos of leaks and a running total of how much of your deposit has been used
      • If costs approach the $2000 limit, we will contact you before proceeding further
      • If under $2,000, the remaining deposit will be refunded

    Keeping You Informed

We are committed to communication.  You will receive timely updates via text, along with photos at each step of the repair process
